Best roller in professional grade for private use - don't get cheaper ones !!
By Miss M.
** Update March 2013 ** ok it's been a little over a year now, and ta-dah, it freaking works !!!!! My forehead looks amazing - the mega deep caverns are 90% filled out again (from the inside out with new collagen) just like i hoped for. The smaller fine lines, absolutely 100% gone to the naked eye! I swear the results are as good as temporary cosmetic fillers - but it's more long term. I'm seriously hooked for life on this process now.

For anyone interested, i'm also launching my own 100% organic natural product line of gender free / vegan / skin moisturizers. Drop me a line with your email address & i'll send you the link.

From Feb 2012: For those of you thinking about trying rolling at home - this is the ONLY product to consider. Here's why:

Surgical grade titanium - not some knock-off mystery metal alloy that can cause some horrible infection and reaction. Remember you are literally punching holes in your skin with these!

540 Needles - an absolute must. More needles = more effective collagen regeneration, and having 540 tiny little pricks hurt a thousand times less than 192 larger diameter needles, trying to cover the same area. You get larger holes, but less of them. More tiny holes are way better at overall area coverage and you can also use this one in delicate areas - like around and under eyes for wrinkles and sun damage.

This comes in a nice protective storage case to keep it clean and sanitized. After each use wash in an antibacterial soapy suds water solution, just swish it around a few minutes, then rinse under hot water and let air dry. I hit mine with a blow dryer for a few seconds to get all the water out of there immediately, then air out a little more before putting in case.

To Use - i highly suggest you start with the forehead only. Use a hot washcloth folded across clean washed bare skin to open pores, run the roller under really hot tap water, and then start rolling slowly from one side to the other. Use enough pressure to be uncomfortable and make little pricks - and yes, you should hear some "popping" type of noises, and there will be very small amounts of blood. Just blot with your washcloth and warm water and keep going. You don't have to press down super hard for this to be effective. Just start with one pass each way, wait a few seconds, steam your forehead again, and go for the next pass across. It's recommend to pass over each area 4x - don't do more !!! The combined steam action of softening your skin and opening your pores makes this a lot easier to use.

I use a pro grade pure vitamin C serum - which makes collagen - and it does burn and sting and makes my face super red and inflamed. I follow up with nice multi-vitamin skin serum, and lastly i use hyaluronic acid - which has a nice cooling sensation and seems to calm the skin nicely as the last topical used.

Oh, and lastly, yep, it's gonna hurt. But it gets less painful with each use, and your skin doesn't get as irritated, as you get used to it. Really. Just remember to always steam your face with a hot washcloth first - it makes a huge difference!!

I'm 51, an esthetician, and decided to use myself as a product tester, before doing on clients. With age i've gotten some horribly deep canyon like gauges and medium depth wrinkles in my forehead. I have been using this for 4 weeks now - 2x a week, and yes !!!!! the finer wrinkles are practically gone, the medium ones are shrinking away, and the super deep ones are at least 50% less than they used to be. We're talking seriously thick lines starting to fill up and be restored from the inside out. It's amazing how well this system works - when used correctly, and with beneficial products.

I intentionally ONLY started with my forehead to see what kind of difference this would really make compared to the rest of my face. Marionette lines around the mouth are gonna be next. I'm hoping for the same amazing results there as well.

love it!
By TheLion
So, I came across derma rollers when I was browsing Ebay for Proactive. As I read more about them I thought okay, I don't really have that many wrinkles and I don't know about this trauma building collagen business, but it would make sense that the holes would allow any creams to go deeper into the skin. While researching I saw there was the titanium version vs. surgical steel... well, titanium would be stronger so I figured that would be less inclined to break and would last longer. Next was 540 vs. the alternative 192 or less. Again, might as well go with the 540 because more holes seems like it would be more productive. Luckily I checked on sizing as well because otherwise I would have purchased the 3.0mm accidentally. 1.5mm is for clinical use, but I figured I wasn't an idiot so as long as I followed the directions and used Youtube to get a good overview on technique I would be good to go.

And that's how I came across this device that I now love! I think the first two times it seemed like it was creating more wrinkles, but I'll attribute that to not enough moisturizer and thus my skin becoming dry. It did in fact make my proactive go deeper into the skin and now I have significantly less acne (note: I did not use it on "live" acne, but rather around it as a preventative measure. As my live acne died down I was able to go over all of my skin and prevent all over acne). In the end though I did become interested if it would work on fine lines, since I do have some. I first used just regular moisturizer, but my latest discovery has been "Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream, 1.7oz". The two combined with my Proactive (just the step 3) has made my skin amazing.

My process:
1) rinse roller in soapy water (I don't trust that things are clean straight up out of the box)
2) add either rubbing alcohol or what I initially used because I didn't have alcohol, hydrogen peroxide
3) dry (I roll it on a fluffy towel)
4) cleanse skin (I use Clearasil Ultra Daily Face Wash)
5) add your numbing cream/gel (I have not purchased one yet, but it seems my skin is becoming more sensitive to the pain... maybe because the skin is now more delicate???)
6) begin to roll following the instructions on the box and preferably after viewing some Youtube videos
7) add whatever product you want. I used first the Olay Regenerist especially around my eyes because they dry easily, then Proactive, then more Olay Regenerist. Let sit.
8) rinse off face
9) here I use an exfoliating product, either St. Ives Apricot Scrub or the Neutragena Wave tool. This will take off a lot of the dead skin vs. you sitting through the peeling process over the following days
10) reapply products (so for me Olay Regenerist, Proactive, and more Regenerist)

I do this once or twice a week at night before bed. It will make your face red as if you've had a sunburn and adding products may or may not sting. By the next morning your face should be mostly pain free. Sometimes mine was a bit tender. Basically I expected the pain, however, I will say the 1.5mm 540 is less painful than the .3mm regular derma roller that I have. Yes there are more needles, but they are thinner and you cover more area with less rolls. If you're debating over the 540, get the 540. I wanted the .3mm because they say the short the needle the more you can use it. Well I'd rather use it once a week and not be in as much pain. I use the .3 mm every now and then on specific fine lines.

So my most recent result has been SIGNIFICANTLY smaller pores. Less blackheads and less general break outs. Fine lines are starting to disappear. So I can't say for sure that it is just due to the collagen building trauma, but I can say there is a result happening and it wasn't happening when I was just applying creams on my skin in a regular manner.

(Note: when not using the derma roller I apply a moisturizer, Proactive, and then moisturizer again. The moisturizer may be the Regenerist or another Olay moisturizing product)

First time with needling
By Sarah B. Heatherly
I am 38 with good skin. I haven't had acne issues and don't many wrinkles. I take care of my skin for the most part, except for occassional tanning in the summer. I do have some very fine expression lines on my forehead and near my eyes. I have read much about needling and was interested in it. I thought the 1.5 mm would be the most versatile. It came in a plastic case and sealed in a sterile package.

I unwrapped it and rinsed it with very hot water and then 91% alcohol. I then soaked it in a dish of alcohol while I took a shower. I washed my face with anti-bacterial soap and combed my hair straight back. Since you are piercing the skin, you have to be very careful to have clean hands, not let your hair hang in your face and have a clean working environment. I shook the excess alcohol off the roller until it was mostly dry. I started softly on my temple area and then pressed a little more as it rolled. I could hear some popping sounds as I went over my forehead but it didn't hurt very much at all. I rolled it vertically up my forehead, all the way across and then back. And then I did horizonal passes from side to side. I have watched youtube videos that showed women being very rough but I don't think that is really needed. It's better to start gentle and not get carried away. Although, the rolling doesn't hurt, the skin starts to tingle very soon. It's been about an hour since I finished and my face feels like it's sunburned. Since I tolerated the treatment well, I went ahead and did my entire face and under my chin. I followed immediately with COQ10, Hyaluronic Acid, Matrixyl 3000 and Argireline Cell Repair Concentrate Serum (that I ordered along with the Derma roller.)

The down side is that the roller did leave some minor track lines where I rolled a little harder in some areas. You might want to be careful and try to keep a steady, even pressure on the roller so not to leave scratches. Definitely be careful around the eyes.
