My Favorite
By Arbela
I've been experimenting with self-tanners all year, and I think I can safely declare this one the winner. It's fair to say that any self tanner is subject to the limitations and/or variations of one's skin, so 5 different people using the same lotion may end up with 5 different results. Without question, it's a pain to go through the process of elimination. I believe I've bought and thrown away several varieties of self tanners, frustrated with either the color, the streaking and/or the uneven fading. But if you're as pale and bruised as I am (thanks to my Irish background and my playful Boston Terrier), eventually finding a tanner that gives one some healthy color is worth the aggravation.

Unlike the others I have tried ~ both expensive and drug store brands ~ Jergens Natural Glow provides a natural color, one that prompts people to ask me, "Did you go on vacation?" I'm a gardener so my forearms tan naturally, and I used that color to judge my self tanners, doing my best to try and match the rest of my body with my golden brown arms. While many tanners do offer some pretty deep color, either the color is too "self-tanner-ish," too dark (which looks silly on me) or it fades unevenly despite consistent efforts to exfoliate and moisturize. I had NONE of these problems with Jergens. The color development was gradual and healthy-looking, streaking has never been a problem, and it fades like a natural tan.

I haven't found the smell to be as offensive as regular self tanners, probably due to the fact that the lotion is made for a more gradual color development. Don't get me wrong...there is a faint odor, but on me it doesn't produce that wretched smell for which self tanners are well known. I still wouldn't march around in public with it slathered on, as sweat and any self tanner do not make for a pleasant fragrance. Like other tanning lotions, it's probably best to use it overnight, sleeping in designated "tanning" clothes you don't mind throwing in the laundry frequently.

Exfoliation and moisturizing with another lotion is important. While Jergen's gives me great color, it's not much of a moisturizer. I'd stick with the body butters. :o) Application can be done with bare hands, something I couldn't do with full strength tanners, but be sure to wash your hands well. Fortunately, because the tan is so gradual, you'll be able to see where too little and/or too much has been applied before it becomes comically obvious. Continue to go easy on the knees and elbows. Heck, I just skip those altogether since I'm not interested in a super deep tan, just the "glow." Doing this matches my knees and developing color nicely.

It's clear each person has to do his or her own experiments in the search for a self tanner that works for them, but I highly recommend adding Jergens Natural Glow to your list of lotions to try. Good luck!

Works, but...
By C. Montejo
It does the job, but there are some things to consider first:

1) 1 application stays on exfoliated skin for 2-3 days (if you shower and shave each day), if not - much longer
2) It works overnight
3) It smells like tanning lotion smells... not right away, but after about 10 minutes
4) no gloves required for application if you wash hands after use
5) I'm a red head with lighter skin than most of the population, but medium color works best for me

Best tanner I've ever used
By Scargosun
I have fair skin during the winter but I started using the Medium Tan after I was on vacation and had aquired a tan. This worked great and not fake at all. I have gotten lots of complements and turned a lot of people on to it. The only thing that keeps me from giving it a 5 rating is that it does not moisturize quite as well as the other Jergens lotions.
