Same ingredients as MURAD & just as effective....
By a0188279
This has the same cleaning power as regular Neutrogena but with a much better smell. I noticed with the orange version that my skin had a medical smell to it. This grapefruit scent is more than acceptable and leaves my skin feeling clean and tight. It does a good job of removing make-up. The 2% salicylic acid is the same strength and cleans as well as Murad, but for far less cost. The other Murad substitute that NEutrogena has is the Rapid Clear 3-in-1 Acne Treatment, which is equivalent to Murad's 2% salicylic acid gel (but again at a much lower cost.) These two products used at night, combined with an SPF 30 moisturizer in the day, make my skin very clear. You have to just continue it even as the gel "boils" the acne to the surface at first. Once the skin is clear, if you continue to use these, then your skin will stay clear. Much less expensive than MURAD!

Makes my skin soft!
By EDotGirl
My aesthetician adviced me to buy this product. She said it has just the right amount of acid. I had been exofoliating a lot b/c I have lots of black heads on my nose, which annoys me, but she said to use this instead because over-exfoliation can cause your pores to just get even bigger. This removes the old skin without irritating the pores.
So I read the reviews and bought it on Amazon. My skin can be a little sensitive, so I started out by mixing it with some creamy/foamy face watch to cut down the strength of the product, and thus not totally dry out my skin, and it worked! It did not dry me out, and I have now switched to using the product without mixing it with the other face wash, and I'm still not drying out my skin. It just feels clean and soft.
I highly recommend this product, as long as you start of slowly!

Smells nice, and effective, but be careful how you use it.
By Chris L.
First of all, the pink grapefruit scent is awesome.
And, used properly as an anti-acne cleanser, it works great. Used improperly, it can lead to dryness and increased breakouts.
Acne is caused by the bacteria that builds up when trapped oil and skin cells accumulate under clogged pores. To treat acne, you must clear those pores and eliminate bacteria. Salicylic acid-containing products slough off cells from the top layer of the skin, helping you keep your pores clear. With all those dead cells cleared away, however, you're also thinning out your body's natural barrier against bacteria.
The trick is, you need to wash away dirt and make use of the gentle exfoliation the salicylic acid allows, without taking so much off that you're weakening the skin's ability to protect. For my skin, one full pump is way too much, I use about a 1/3rd of a pump and dilute with some water before using.
You only get so far with just a cleanser. To really treat problem acne, you also need to treat bacteria using a benzoyl peroxide treatment, and protect everything with a moisturizer. As with salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide if overused can irritate the skin causing more harm than good, so it should be applied sparingly. It helps to use a low-concentration formula like the 2.5% Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne Treatment, Vanishing Formula, 0.75 Ounce (21 g). All that acid and peroxide on your skin is going to leave it vulnerable, so you should finish it all off with a protective moisturizer. The best will probably be a simple cream such as the Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, Fragrance Free - 16 oz. You don't want all sorts of exotic ingredients that your skin might be allergic to, and medicated lotions are often overkill.
Lastly, don't touch your face and change the pillow covers regularly!
